Education
I received my Diploma from the Technische Universität Braunschweig, Braunschweig, Germany in 2006. I carried out my work under the supervision of Dr K-H Gericke (TU-Braunschweig) and Dr Joel Harris (University of Utah) at the University of Utah. I joined the Bartl group in fall 2006.
Interests
My research focuses on magneto-optical effects in photonic crystals. There I utilize the optical effect of photonic crystals at a photonic band edge in which the group velocity of light slows down (goes to zero). This light property of photonic crystals enables us to enhance magneto-optical effects, namely Faraday rotation and Kerr effect, at these frequencies by increasing their nominal path length.
To study magneto-optical effects different strategies using a sol-gel approach as well as the properties of Dilute Magnetic Semiconductors (to bring in the magnetic component into photonic crystals) are combined.
