Graduate Application Checklist

You must have:

  1. An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0, based on all undergraduate work or work completed during the last two years of study, whichever is higher.
  2. A bachelor's degree from a fully accredited college or university.
  3. Three letters of recommendation, with one from a faculty member in the college or university in which the applicant studies or studied.

Steb-by-Step Instructions

In the initial phase of your application process, you will need to take the following steps:

  1. Fill out the Chemistry Department's preliminary application (the Apply Online link on this page only).
  2. Request official transcripts from ALL universities and colleges that you have attended to be sent directly to the Chemistry Graduate Admissions Office.
  3. Download and print three copies of the Letter of Recommendation form and send them to the individuals who will complete them and subsequently mail them together with the letter of recommendation to the Chemistry Graduate Admissions Office.
  4. Request that an official record of your GRE scores be sent to the Chemistry Graduate Admissions Office.
  5. If your primary language is not English, and/or you are not a citizen of the US, you must request that official records of your TOEFL score be sent to the Chemistry Graduate Admissions Office. We also highly recommend the TSE test.
  6. Personal Statement, a brief description of your reasons for pursuing an advanced degree in chemistry (included as the last textbox in the online application).

Once you have elected to accept an offer made by the Department of Chemistry:

  1. The Application for Admission to Graduate School provided in your offer packet should be completed and returned in a timely fashion to the Chemistry Graduate Admissions Office.
  2. The Chemistry Graduate Admissions Office will forward your application, official transcripts and other records to the domestic or international admissions office.

 

Notification of the admission decision is made from the Admissions Office after the admissions file is reviewed for final acceptance by The Graduate School.
